I Locked him in the car!!!

Yes, that is what I did!

We pulled up in the driveway tonight, I grabbed my purse out of the front seat, jumped out and unbuckled Isaiah from his carseat. He decided he wanted to play with the straps and flat out refused to get out. I started out saying "pleaseeeee Isaiah, let's go in." Being the stubborn kid that he is he kept shaking his head no to me. After a few minutes of this I started telling him "bye bye". This was not working as well. Then the nightmare started.

Let me back up a little. After I had grabbed my purse from the front seat, I had opened Isaiah's car door in the back. Then I locked the car with the remote and threw the keys inside the purse. As I was telling Isaiah "bye, bye" I thought I'd get more dramatic and shut the door so he would come. Yes, this defiantly worked. He wanted out but at that very moment I realized that BOTH of my sets of keys were INSIDE my purse and INSIDE the car with him in it!

I freaked out. Ray was on the other side of town, about 20 minutes away. It was hot outside and very humid. I screamed for my neighbor to come help (he was throwing the garbage) and we tried for about 5 minutes with a wire hanger  to unlock the door and we were not even getting close. All the time Isaiah is screaming at the top of his lungs!

I called the police in a panic and they called the fire station. I had three firefighters here in a matter of minutes and they popped the door right open. What was actually about a 20 minute ordeal felt like a life time. It was quite a show for all my nosey neighbors!

Isaiah was totally fine and happy after he was freed from the car until the unimaginable happened... the fire truck pulled away and left! He wanted them to stay!

August pictures of Abigail

We want her home so bad. We used to think she'd be home by the age of 7 months. Then we would say for SURE she'll be home by her first birthday. Now we are hoping and praying she'll be here for her third.

Oh, the stress continues...

Sometimes I think I cant win for losing all the time. Abbie's adoption has been one big ball of stress and I'm sure it will continue to be until the very end!

After I received the news on Monday that her abandonment hearing was final I decided to start getting another dossier/paperwork ready (this will be the third!)and be ahead of schedule. Since I was running errands for work, I stopped by the office of our social worker to drop off a check to get our homestudy updated. I even had the check filled out and ready to go.

I figured that I knew what the payment was since I have had several addendums, updates and post placements done in the last three years. It has always been a $300 charge.

I walked in to the office and told them the news of Abbie and told them I that I need to get a fresh copy of the homestudy with updated dates and what nots. They were in the middle of lunch so I said I would just drop off the check and they could call me at their convenience. Well...They said they wanted to explain to me that I was going to need more than an update. I said "okay"...."What?"

I basically have to have a BRAND NEW homestudy done since I have already adopted and brought home a child! My $300 check had to turn into a $1250 check! Yes, that part stinks alone but...all the stuff I have to do again has me mentally drained. I think it's worse this time than the very first initial homestudy almost three years ago! We are back to the individual interviews, medical exams for all the family (even Isaiah), background checks, fingerprints, home visit, pet vaccinations, diagram of our house, 6 reference letters and various other things!

Okay, after leaving the office, feeling sick to my stomach and stressed. I got to thinking about the conversation I had with our lawyer in Guatemala several weeks back. I had asked her about our old dossier (paperwork) and she said it all should be fine and not to worry about it. She said the main thing is just to make sure that our homestudy says we are allowed to adopt two children of any age from Guatemala.

Let me back up a little... The homestudy our lawyer has in our file right now is the homestudy that is three years old and only says that we want to adopt ONE baby girl under two years old. When we decided to adopt Isaiah we had a update to the original saying we are allowed to adopt TWO children of any age or gender from Guatemala.

So, as soon as I got back to work I e-mailed the lawyer and asked her if this would work even though it was more than a year old and she said YES! Thank God! I called immediately to our social worker here in town and told them dont cash the check I dont need the brand new homestudy. Now im back to stress free until the next day...

I brought a complete notorized, state certified and authenticated dossier that I had done when I was completing Isaiah's dossier to work with me. I was going to run it to Fed Ex and send off to Guatemala. I called up our attorney in Guat and got her address and as I hung up the phone thinking all was well and dandy...I look down and guess what?! The flippin Notory on the homestudy had expired one week ago! All other documents were good to go but the very one that I needed the worse... had EXPIRED!!!

The stress continues....

FINALLY!!!!

You guessed it! Abbie's final hearing was a success!

Our lawyer e-mailed us around 1:00 today and said that everything went fine. She said the judge and pgn lawyer both agreed Abbie should be declared abandoned! Still in shock I had to e-mail her back and ask the question...They "thought" or they "did"? She e-mailed me about an hour later and gave me all the details. The short version is that we have to wait for the judge to write the sentence declaring her abandoned which should be ready in a week or so. Then they will notify all parties (the absent birthmom, PGN and hogar) that it is ready and then our lawyer will be able to pick up a certified copy of her COA (certificate of abandonment and adoptability). From there they will take it to the civil registry to be recorded and then they will issue new birth certificates giving the orphanage legal custody of Abbie. From there...the Central Authority (CNA) will have ten days to try and find a Guatemalan family for her. If they fail to do so...we should be allowed to continue with her adoption.

Now... it might sound easier than what it really is. There are major hurdles that we STILL have to go through. First off...I was told months back that Abbie might be very appealing to a Guatemalan family because she does not look indegious to Guatemala. I guess because she is light skinned and light hair? But on the other hand newborn babies are more appealing so I'm not totally freaking out yet. I truly want her with a family but hey...give us the chance first!

Then if we get past this, we have to get through PGN. Since Abbie's certificate of abandonment did not get issued before they stopped new adoptions... we are hoping we can proceed under the "old adoption laws" since our adoption was registered with the CNA. We also have the judge's ruling that if the CNA cant find a suitable family that we can continue the adoption that was already started.

Right now Im just so happy to get this major hurdle over. It has been two years since we started her adoption and a week away from her being in the orphanage for a year. We are very thankful tonight!

Prayers needed this weekend

Monday is Abbie's final abandonment hearing. All the prayers are appreciated. Our lawyer e-mailed us and said everything is still in place but she had some problems with the judge and the PGN lawyer the other day so this is making me VERY nervous. I want to get past this so bad! It's all I think about.

Below is a photo Montage of Abbie that I put together for her first birthday. Some of you probably haven't seen her early pictures. There's a pretty song on the montage so if you want to hear it...turn the music off at the bottom and hit the speaker on the montage screen.

Coeur d'Alene Idaho

We are back from vacation. I gave my camera a good work out. In fact...A man came up to me and asked me if I was worried that I was going to blind Isaiah with the flash! HA HA!!

How cool is this slide???

I absolutely LOVE this resort! I could just lie in bed all day and stare out the window

Grandma would have a heart attack if she saw this. Dont worry...he was totally safe.

Enjoying a hotdog at the local park

Aimee and Ray coming back from golfing. They had to ride a boat out to get on the course. I'll post some pics when I down load them from my camcorder

Spokane Washington

Isaiah continues to be such a good boy on this trip! We are really shocked at how well behaved he has been. Last night we attempted to eat at a very nice restaurant and we were able to eat our entire meal without him throwing a temper tantrum!!! For those who know Isaiah or have been around him...this is a shocker! Let's just say he is normally very demanding!

Today we are in Coeur d"Alene Idaho and tomorrow we head back home! Ray and Aimee are playing golf right now and Isaiah and I are taking it easy at the resort. This has been a very relaxing trip for the four of us!
